As many of you are well aware today is remembrance day. Today at school we had a special assembly and i bought a poppy at the shop this morning.
Our assembly today was really sad and i started crying near the end. A girl sang we'll meet again by Vera Lynn and another girl played the flute. Someone recited In Flander's Field and someone from the church sang Green Fields of France. While that was all very sad the bit that got me was when we watched the poppyscotland 2007 Remembrance video, i felt my eyes all well up and then the tears were streaming down my face. I'll embed it on to the end of this post if anyone would like to watch it. We also did a two minute silence over the whole building at 11am.
This is the very famous poem In Flander's Field.
In Flanders field the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago.
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
~~By Major John McCrae, May 1915.~~
I was lucky enough to also visit Belgium on my trip to France and we went to Iepers which has the Flander's Field Museum in it.
Here is the video: The Scottish Poppy Appeal Video 2007

Please watch it, and remember all of those who have given their lives so we can live the way we do today. This video is more about the soldiers in Afghanistan right now than World War One and Two.
“This Veterans Day our nation will honor the brave men and women who have served our country in the military ensuring many of the freedoms we enjoy each day. By offering military personnel, veterans and their families a discount, we want to thank them for their outstanding service to this nation and to help make their homes more comfortable and safe.” - Bob Nardelli
"Always remember to slow down in life; live, breathe, and learn; take a look around you whenever you have time and never forget everything and every person that has the least place within your heart." - Anon.
