My Music Playlist (December)
Hey guys, this is a playlist of my favourite music from this month! I'll probably change it though xD
Wednesday, 11 November 2009
we will never forget them.
As many of you are well aware today is remembrance day. Today at school we had a special assembly and i bought a poppy at the shop this morning.
Our assembly today was really sad and i started crying near the end. A girl sang we'll meet again by Vera Lynn and another girl played the flute. Someone recited In Flander's Field and someone from the church sang Green Fields of France. While that was all very sad the bit that got me was when we watched the poppyscotland 2007 Remembrance video, i felt my eyes all well up and then the tears were streaming down my face. I'll embed it on to the end of this post if anyone would like to watch it. We also did a two minute silence over the whole building at 11am.
This is the very famous poem In Flander's Field.
In Flanders field the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago.
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
~~By Major John McCrae, May 1915.~~
I was lucky enough to also visit Belgium on my trip to France and we went to Iepers which has the Flander's Field Museum in it.
Here is the video: The Scottish Poppy Appeal Video 2007
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=21221297
Please watch it, and remember all of those who have given their lives so we can live the way we do today. This video is more about the soldiers in Afghanistan right now than World War One and Two.
“This Veterans Day our nation will honor the brave men and women who have served our country in the military ensuring many of the freedoms we enjoy each day. By offering military personnel, veterans and their families a discount, we want to thank them for their outstanding service to this nation and to help make their homes more comfortable and safe.” - Bob Nardelli
"Always remember to slow down in life; live, breathe, and learn; take a look around you whenever you have time and never forget everything and every person that has the least place within your heart." - Anon.
Thank you,

BlogStarKaty's been to France!
heey (:
Well yesterday I got back from a school trip to France, so I thought I'd blog a little about it :D
An image should appear in my sidebar, but I don't trust photobucket lol.
It was pretty awesome, none of my close friends were going so that was kinda the only downside but I knew enough of the other girls.
Now, if any of you have ever been to, or live in France you will know its a very beautiful country that should be enjoyed at one's leisure...right? Apparently not to our teachers, who all in all were great but they had the trip so well planned we didn't really have much time to sit and enjoy it. :(
Well I left last Thursday (8th of October) at about 6pm from my school and we drove down to Dover, which took about 12 hours in a coach :(. Then we got on a ferry and left to sail for Calais at about 7am-ish. We arrived in Calais (pronounced Ca-ley) at around 9am and drove to this little village somewhere in France that had the biggest church I've ever seen for a town of it's size. When we were there we stopped at this little market and I found a beautiful butterfly necklace for my sister and this really cool ring for my best friend. We then left the little town and drove to the Vimy Ridge Memorial Park. We went in the trenches of the Canadian soldiers, visited the museum and then went to see the memorial and then we drove to our hotel. We stayed at a hotel called Hotel Morphee, it was ok, nothing special. That night's dinner was horrible though, we went to a place called Crocodile just outside our hotel and the choices of food we had were steak and chips or salmon pasta. I thought it would be safer to go with the steak and chips, that was until it came. The steak was pink, it was disgusting, well I found it disgusting as I like my steak well done. It's kinda put me off steak for a while actually, all the blood oozing out of it. Sorry for making anyone a veggie there xD
We ending up waking up at 7am :( I was knackered. Then I went down for breakfast at the hotel which was pretty good (: Then we got on the bus and drove to Belgium, where we spent the day in Iepers or something like that, it's where the Menin Gate is. I bought loads of Belgian chocolate, and lemme tell you, it was amazing :D Then we went to the Flanders Field Museum and the Tyne Cot Cemetery, which was, depressing. Then we drove back to the Menin Gate and walked around this park thingy where Lauren did a cartweel and practically broke her wrist lol, she was ok though, just a sprain, on the downside she had to wear a wrist support for the rest of the trip
:(. We had dinner at a place called Gasthof Z'weerd (or as we called it Gastof Zweird.) and it was a set menu of soup, chicken salad and chips and ice cream. Now, the soup came and it was this green stuff that turned out to be carrot and corriander, it was actually quite good. But the chicken salad was really good, I thought it would be a huge big plate of salad with some chunks of chicken and a little drop of chips, I couldn't have been more wrong, it was a tiny salad (that consisted of shredded lettuce, carrots and a slice of cucumber), chips on the side and then this hee-ugee chicken xD It was good though. Then we went to the Last Post at the Menin Gate, it was so quite I thought someone was going to fart xD Not funny, but you know.
Then on Sunday we transfered to Paris and went to the Eiffel Tower, it was soo tall, but not as tall as I thought it was, I guess something's look better in pictures. But it was cool, we went right to the top :) Me and Joe have decided that Paris got pwned, by usss!! xD good times, good times. Oh but Paris got PBJ-ed (Peanut, Butter and Jelly-ed) by me and Louise xD. Then we went to Flunch for dinner, where we went to for 3 nights and I ate fish at for 3 nights xD
On Monday we went to Notre Dame, which all in all, isn't really that amazing, I spent the whole time looking for Quizimodo and Esmerelda. Other than being pretty cool looking on the outside it isn't really that special. Then we went to McDonalds for lunch and I thought "Great, finally some home comforts" they guy's behind the till even spoke English to some extent. I ordered a McChicken Sandwich and when it came it had pepper on it xP it was ok, but a bit spicy, so much for home comfort. :( Then we went to Centre Pompidou, the modern art gallery. French people like naked people....it was gross. Then we went to Flunch, again.
Tuesday was Versailles, the Palace and Park. It was ok, the banter was better though...
Then Wednesday was DISNEYLAND!!!! I met Peter Pan and Wendy! Jealous much?
Followed by anoth 14-hour journey back home again.
Ahhhh France was fun.
I'm gonna go now, as im sure you are already bored by my insane ramblings and overuse of commas.
